Every now and then, one of the St Davids Escapes team finds a particular cottage capturing their imagination. This time, it’s Sean’s turn to talk to us about what he sees in Carreg Wen, just outside Solva.

Hi Sean! So, what is it about Carreg Wen that has captured your imagination?

Well, Carreg Wen is a hidden gem nestled just back from the stunning coastline outside Solva. It’s just a perfect holiday retreat. From the moment you arrive, the peaceful surroundings and the charming cottage itself just capture your heart.

What sets Carreg Wen apart from other cottages?

One of the standout features for me is its proximity to the coast path. I’m an avid walker, and having the path right at your doorstep is a dream come true. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast or just enjoy a leisurely stroll, Carreg Wen’s location is a haven for walkers.

That sounds wonderful! Can you tell us more about the cottage’s living space?

What I find particularly appealing about Carreg Wen is its spacious and open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area. It’s the kind of setup that fosters a sense of togetherness. Imagine spending your evenings with friends or family, some preparing a meal together in the well-equipped kitchen while others play scrabble in the living room, and then moving seamlessly to the dining area. The open layout creates a communal atmosphere that makes the holiday experience truly special.

Would you say it’s a cottage for all seasons?

Absolutely! The large log burner in the living room means that in winter I can picture cooking a Sunday roast together after a windy walk on the coast path. In summer months, we would have been down to the harbour to do some crabbing or have a dip, and head back up with fresh crab and lobster to prepare with a salad. The flow from the indoor living area to the outdoor patio is seamless, and that’s where the magic happens on sunny days.

Sounds great! Tell us more about the outdoor space.

The patio and lawn is a real highlight. Picture this – you’ve had a delightful meal, the sun is setting, and you decide to move outdoors with a glass of wine. The patio becomes an extension of the living space, offering a perfect spot for an alfresco sundowner while watching the kids doing cartwheels on the lawn. It’s moments like these that make Carreg Wen truly special.

Lastly, Sean, if you were to book a holiday at Carreg Wen, what activities or experiences would be at the top of your list?

Definitely exploring the coastal path and taking in the breathtaking views. St Davids Peninsula is known for its stunning landscapes, and being so close to the coast path means you can immerse yourself in nature at any time.

I would also make the most of Bay View Stores being so close by with everything you need for a great picnic. A slighter longer walk or very short drive and you’re in Lower Solva with fantastic shops like Seaforth Designs, and pubs and restaurants galore!

And of course, those cosy evenings in the open-plan living space with good company and great food – that’s what makes a holiday memorable.

Carreg Wen sleeps six people and is a pet free property.
A week’s stay starts at £950.
