It’s that time of year isn’t it? The evenings are drawing in, the log fires are lit and Sundays are made for muddy coast path walks and a cosy Sunday roast. Here’s our pick of some of the best places for Sunday lunch in and around St Davids.
The Druidstone will capture your heart, with its cosy nooks and fascinating bits and bobs (think lamps made of bicycle parts and you’re on the right track.) The view out over the bay is simply magical. On a sunny autumn day sit outside with a glass of wine watching the seagulls glide out to sea, and on chillier afternoons gaze out of the window while enjoying the warmth of a log fire. Sunday lunch can be walked off on the beautiful beach that nestles just below the hotel.
Less quirky, but just as cosy is the Cambrian Inn in Lower Solva. A comfortable lounge bar with chesterfields will greet you before you’re shown to a stylish yet traditional dining room with original beams and exposed stonework for a scrumptious roast dinner. After lunch, head across the road to the Bluebell Woods, which make a lovely riverside walk even without their springtime carpet of bluebells.
A little way up the hill, The Royal George is a friendly and vibrant pub with lots going on and is a favourite among locals. A homely Sunday lunch here is followed by ‘Barry’s Big Fun Quiz!’ If that’s not your vibe, head up on to the terrace to take in the panoramic views of Solva and St Brides Bay. Take a stroll down to the harbour and across to Solva beach on a low tide.
A long-standing hotel on St Davids’ Cross Square now incorporates a sleek bar and restaurant that is popular with tourists and locals alike. On Sundays, they don’t limit themselves to just the usual, and so a lunch here can be a traditional roast or their famous club sandwich – or anything in between! After you’ve eaten wind down with a cocktail, or a wander down to St Davids Cathedral.
You will often hear The Mill talked about in regard to its frankly incredible breakfast offering, and that is definitely worth checking out, but they do a lovely Sunday lunch too! A small cafe in the quiet village of Trefin, their roasted meats are locally sourced and marinated to perfection! The coastline around Trefin is beautiful, so head to the coast path after your lunch to take in the views.
A little further afield but worth the journey, The Swan Inn is a pub serving amazing food any day of the week! A Sunday lunch here can be taken in the cosy bar area downstairs or in the comfortable dining area upstairs. Either has a view of Little Haven beach which, you guessed it, is perfect for an after-lunch stroll!
