Here at St Davids Escapes, we talk about Pembrokeshire’s beaches a lot. And with good reason! We’ve got award-winning beaches, secluded coves and sandy movie backdrops at the end of every road here in Pembrokeshire.

This means there are endless locations at which to indulge in salty hair and sandy sandwich days. With this coastline on offer, it would be rude not to! In between those beach days though, why not do something different? Put down your bucket and spade, step out of your wetsuit and head inland to discover an array of entertainment on offer across this fascinating county. Do something different during your St Davids Escape this summer!

Pigs and Giggles at Trehale Farm and Clwb
Trehale Farm has long been known as the place where you can pet farm animals, eat exotic feasts, dance the night away and laugh ’till your sides hurt. The owners have recently taken over Club in St Davids, which means there are double the events to enjoy during your stay! Why not bring the family to one of the fantastic feast evenings or to one of many live gigs at these intimate venues? Trehale Farm is also well-known for its comedy evenings, bringing comics from all across the UK to its charming outdoor stage.
CapTure the castle at Carew
Pembrokeshire is dotted with castles, and one of its most impressive examples is the Norman tidal waterway fortification of Carew Castle and Tidal Mill. A designated Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its bat population, and winner of Pembrokeshire Tourism’s 2018 award, this is a fantastic place to spend the day. Do something different at this fortress overlooking a 23-acre millpond. Take a Bat Tour, go to Knight School, watch an open-air play or go crabbing along the banks of the tidal mill. This is a fantastic spot that kids and adults alike will love!

Paint your own fun at The Creative Cafe
If you’re all beached out and want to take the family to do something different for the day, or if the weather isn’t playing ball, then The Creative Cafe is the perfect place to enjoy some mindful, creative fun. Paint your own pottery, get colourfully paint-splattered and create some coastal holiday memorabilia masterpieces for your mantelpiece back home!

Get competitive at Heatherton World of Activities
At Heatherton World of Activities, it’s not a question of whether you want to do something different, it’s what to try first! This award-winning family adventure park has so much on offer – try archery, go-karting, baseball machines, bumper boats, walk on water globes, shooting, high ropes, crazy golf…whew! Good thing they have a cafe so that you can refuel, ready to challenge your family to the next contest. Use scorecards to keep track of your progress and treat the winner to an ice cream from local vendors at the end of the day!
Immerse in history and have fun at Castell Henllys
Castell Henllys roughly translates to Old Court Castle and is the most well-known prehistoric site in Wales. It’s the only Iron Age site in Britain that’s been reconstructed as it would have been over 2,000 years ago. Now it’s a visitor centre and a fantastic day out for kids and adults alike! Nestled into the valley below the magical Preseli mountains, Castell Henllys gives your children the opportunity to train as a tribal warrior. They can learn Iron Age folk tales around the fire and explore how the Demetae tribe would have lived in the breathtaking roundhouses with reenactments and lessons. Take a picnic to eat by the riverside, or take advantage of the cafe just off the main site.
We hope our list has inspired you to do something different during your summer holiday in Pembrokeshire. That is if you need a break from coastal hikes to stunning sunset spots or having picnics on secluded beaches!
