A weekend getaway to Pembrokeshire is a wonderful way to get a snapshot of all this beautiful corner of the world has to offer. With a couple of days here, as well as some all-important chill time, you may want to be out exploring as much as possible. Here’s our guide to the best day out in (and around) St Davids.
Take an early morning stroll along Solva harbour
The early bird catches the views, and there are few better than the walk down to and along Solva Harbour, especially at high tide. A perfect way to start your day out!
Have breakfast at MAMGU WELSHCAKES
Nestled on Main Street at the bottom of Solva, Mamgu Welshcakes is a must-visit! Whether you’re a light breakfaster and simply fancy some warm welshcakes and a great coffee, or are after a full fry-up, they’ve got you covered! Make sure you take away a box of their unique homemade welshcakes as a souvenir.
Explore St Davids
Head from Solva to St Davids, and get ready for some first class pottering. Wander around this tiny city and take in the independent shops selling everything from locally woven rugs to the best surf brands. There are also a multitude of galleries to explore, cafes to rest in and pubs to grab a cold pint. End your meandering with a visit to St Davids Cathedral and the next door Bishops Palace. Peckish? Grab lunch on the go from St Davids Food & Wine.
Head to Porthclais
From St Davids, either hop on the Celtic Coaster or take a walk to Porthclais Harbour. In this sleepy spot you’ll find Porthclais Kiosk, an absolute gem serving great coffee and sublime ice cream, as well as some scrumptious toasties. Pick up your choice of goodies and sit harbourside to watch the world go by.
Porthclais Kiosk is open from Easter until after October Half Term.
Catch a boat
After an afternoon exploring by land, it’s time to take to the sea! We recommend a Sunset Shearwater Voyage with Falcon Boats. Sit back and take in the breathtaking views while the knowledgable crew tell you all about the wildlife and geology that surrounds you.
Have an early evening pint at GRAIN
Grain is a pizza place that sits at the heart of St Davids. Here you’ll not only find spectacular pizza, but a fantastic array of craft beer and very knowledgable staff. Much of the beer is locally brewed, so you’re likely to try something new!
Have a Curry overlooking the sea
From Grain, drive through St Davids to the Rugby Club, where you’ll find Mr Funk’s Sri Lankan Curry! They serve delicious Sri Lankan dishes like Rice & Curry and Kottu. We recommend that you take your food to Whitesands beach, and either eat on the sand, a bench or in the car looking out to sea.
Return to your cosy cottage
After a busy day, you will love nothing more than settling down in your cosy Pembrokeshire holiday cottage. Sit by the fire, read a book, or simply share the day’s adventures before heading to bed for a good night’s sleep.
