Here on the St Davids Peninsula we are blessed with incredible independent food producers, cool cafes and inspiring places to eat. They have all worked so hard to adapt to the ‘new normal’, and it is wonderful to see so many continuing to offer their services for the upcoming season. Here’s our guide to the tastiest food on the peninsula for you to enjoy on the beach, your favourite harbour wall or in the comfort of your holiday cottage.

Click on each of the headings below and it will take you to their Facebook page, which is the best way to see up-to-date menus, ordering processes and opening times.

Serving up fantastic coffee, delicious cakes and of course, locally made ice cream. The perfect stop on a coast path walk, or to take a break from crabbing from the harbour wall! We highly recommend the Deli toastie after a swim.

With a menu change every week and taking inspiration from all around the world while using locally foraged ingredients, the Really Wild Emporium opened mid-lockdown last year and has kept us fed on pies and wonderful coffees and inventive cakes!

The Shed hasn’t let the last year to keep them from serving up their fantastic fish and chip takeaway menu! Sitting on the harbour wall with a box of fish and chips in hand is a must on any visit to the St Davids Peninsula.

Serving up their legendary fish and chips alongside some other favourites (we recommend the Battered Haloumi!) in the evenings, 35 Main Street has also introduced their brunch menu, meaning you can get a Full Welsh Breakfast, Steak Sandwich, Eggs Benedict and more from this fantastic cafe.

These guys took over the cafe at Oriel Y Parc in late 2019, and gave us a taste of their passion for food over the few months they were open before lockdown. Since then, they have got creative with their street food style takeaway menu and it is awesome! They’re small, brilliant menu changes each week, so be sure to check their social media.

The Bench are back open with their fantastical ice cream flavours in the heart of St Davids. Also on the menu are milkshakes, hot chocolates and tea and coffee. So they’ve got you covered whatever the weather!

St Davids Cross Hotel has worked hard over the last year to bring us pretty much a full pub menu to takeaway! The highlight has to be their kebabs and loaded fries – perfect to take to the beach for a sunset picnic.

Mamgu Welshcakes, Solva

Mamgu’s is open for takeaway coffees and their glorious homemade welshcakes. Grab whichever flavour takes your fancy and make your way over to enjoy them on Solva beach!

Your trip to Whitesands can now be complete with takeaway food and drink from the cafe! Whether it’s chips on the beach or a coffee break on a coast path walk, it’s a cafe much loved by locals and visitors alike.

Does that platter look like heaven to you? As always, Mrs Will The Fish has been at the heart of the Solva community during lockdown, and we’ve loved her takeaway seafood platters as well as dressed crab and more. Give her a call or message on Facebook to pre-order.

Many will be familiar with The Mill, Trefin, famous for their breakfasts and fantastic Sunday lunch. Well, we are thrilled to welcome them to St Davids as they have relocated! Now serving takeaway all-day breakfast, brunch and light bites, alongside hot drinks and cakes. And of course, takeaway Sunday lunch!

The new arrivals in the courtyard behind TYF in St Davids, Grain has been serving up craft beer and stone-baked pizzas for a few weeks and is a hit! Beautiful ingredients and friendly faces make this a must-visit in St Davids.

Coming soon….The old sweet shop has transformed into a traditional pasty shop. We can’t wait for the beautiful smell to waft up the high street – enough to make any tummy rumble! All of their pasties will be made in Wales.

 St Davids Peninsula Food Hub

An online collection of the best small producers on the peninsula, and perfect for planning ahead for your holiday. Place an order from various producers online, and collect while you’re here. From homemade cakes, to bottles of local milk, to beautiful veg boxes – it has everything you need to cosy up for the week in your cottage! Order by Thursday and collect on Saturday morning at St Davids Rugby Club.

Here are some of the shops that have been our heroes over the last year too.

Bay View Stores, Solva – fresh meat and fish, a fabulous selection of fruit and veg and soon to open a vending machine with fresh milk from Mount Farm.

St Davids Food & Wine – full of organic foodie goodies, as well as the best wines and beers. They’ve set up an outdoor counter serving their baguettes and pasties too.

The Veg Patch, St Davids – Does what it says on the tin and so much for. Fantastic fruit and veg as well as some of the best cheesecakes we’ve ever tasted!

Gwyn Davies and Son Butchers – Lovely meat, as well as fruit and veg. We recommend the chilli sausages for a BBQ with a kick.

Is there any food to be had late on Mon, Tues, Weds and Thursday evenings about 8.30 / 9pm?

      Hi Adrian,

You can collect a Takeaway from St Davids Cross Hotel until 9pm, also Saffron in St Davids is the Indian Takeaway, I think they operate until later if you want to collect a Takeaway from them – they are on Nun Street. The Shed in Porthgain stop serving Takeaways at 8.30pm.

Best to contact each of the individual places if you can to pre-order or book your slot.

      Hope you enjoy

Hello, thanks for this. really useful resource! Has the fish and chip shop, just off the main square, closed down?

      Hi Edmund,

Peter’s Plaice is still open (closed Sundays). You can’t pre-order there so you would just need to join the queue. In the high season they are open all day from 12-8pm.

      Have a great time.
