Here on the St Davids Peninsula we are blessed with incredible independent food producers, cool cafes and inspiring places to eat. They have all worked so hard to adapt to the ‘new normal’, and it is wonderful to see so many prepare for the season ahead and ensure they can continue to offer their service. Here’s our guide to the tastiest food on the peninsula for you to enjoy on the beach, your favourite harbour wall or in the comfort of your holiday cottage.

Click on each of the headings below and it will take you to their Facebook page, which is the best way to see up to date menus, ordering processes and opening times. The majority are taking preorders over the phone only, and won’t be available for walk-ins.

Porthclais Kiosk

Serving up fantastic coffee, delicious cakes and of course, locally made ice cream. The perfect stop on a coast path walk, or to take a break from crabbing from the harbour wall!

The Really Wild Emporium, St Davids

With a menu change every week and taking inspiration from all around the world while using locally foraged ingredients, the Really Wild Emporium opened mid-lockdown and has kept us fed on pies and wonderful coffees and inventive cakes!

The Shed Fish & Chip Bistro, Porthgain

The Shed hasn’t let lockdown keep them from serving up their fantastic fish and chip takeaway menu! Sitting on the harbour wall with a box of fish and chips in hand is a must on any visit to the St Davids Peninsula.

35 Main Street, Solva

Serving up their legendary fish and chips alongside some other favourites (we recommend the Battered Haloumi!) in the evenings, 35 Main Street has also introduced their brunch menu, meaning you can get a Full Welsh Breakfast, Steak Sandwich, Eggs Benedict and more from this fantastic cafe.

The Old Pharmacy Tea Room, Solva

The Old Pharmacy are now taking takeaway orders from their brand new outdoor counter! Their crab sandwiches are famous, and their afternoon teas delicious. If you’re celebrating a special occasion while you’re here we definitely recommend preordering one of their afternoon tea boxes.

Pilgrims Cafe, St Davids

These guys took over the cafe at Oriel Y Parc last November, and gave us a taste of their passion for food over the few months they were open before lockdown. Since then, they have got creative with their street food style takeaway menu and it is awesome! They’re small, brilliant menu changes each week, so be sure to check their social media.

St Davids Gin and Kitchen

Burgers, kebabs, pizzas, Chinese food, faggots! You name it, St Davids Gin and Kitchen have got it to takeaway! Alongside the extensive menu is a selection of drinks to take away.

The Brew Box

The Brew Box has been the answer to our prayers while the pubs have been closed. These guys have a converted horse box full to the brim with craft beers, unique wines and DIY cocktail kits. They pop up somewhere different each week, so check out their social media!

The Bench Ice Cream Parlour, St Davids

The Bench are back open with their fantastical ice cream flavours in the heart of St Davids. Also on the menu are milkshakes, hot chocolates and tea and coffee. So they’ve got you covered whatever the weather!

St Davids Cross Hotel

St Davids Cross Hotel have worked hard over the lockdown to bring us pretty much a full pub menu to takeaway! The highlight has to be their new pizza menu; thin crusts and delicious toppings that will have you going back more than once.

Mamgu Welshcakes, Solva

Mamgu’s has recently reopened with their breakfast and lunch menu, with many dishes of course featuring their very own welsh cakes! Breakfast bap with a welsh cake on top? Don’t mind if we do!

Whitesands Beach House

Your trip to Whitesands can now be complete with takeaway food and drink from the cafe! Whether it’s chips on the beach or a coffee break on a coast path walk, it’s a cafe much loved by locals and visitors alike!

Does that platter look like heaven to you? As always, Mrs Will The Fish has been at the heart of the Solva community during lockdown, and we’ve loved her takeaway seafood platters as well as dressed crab and more. Give her a call or message on Facebook to pre-order.

The Mill, St Davids

Many will be familiar with The Mill, Trefin, famous for their breakfasts and fantastic Sunday lunch. Well, we are thrilled to welcome them to St Davids as they have relocated! Now serving takeaway all-day breakfast, brunch and light bites, alongside hot drinks and cakes. And of course, takeaway Sunday lunch!

Pencarnan Pizzas

These guys operate from a hut on Pencarnan Campsite in summer months, and they are definitely worth a visit! Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 5pm, this year their menu has expanded to include some delicious specials, including a pizza brownie!

Here are some of the shops that have been our lockdown heroes too – all still offering delivery!

Bay View Stores, Solva – fresh meat and fish, a fabulous selection of fruit and veg and soon to open a vending machine with fresh milk from Mount Farm!

St Davids Food & Wine – full of organic foodie goodies, as well as the best wines and beers. They’ve set up an outdoor counter serving their baguettes and pasties too!

The Veg Patch, St Davids – Does what it says on the tin and so much for. Fantastic fruit and veg as well as some of the best cheesecakes we’ve ever tasted!

Gwyn Davies and Son Butchers – Lovely meat, as well as fruit and veg. We recommend the chilli sausages for a BBQ with a kick!

Is there any food to be had late on Mon, Tues, Weds and Thursday evenings about 8.30 / 9pm?
Take away or delivery to Lleithyr Farm, 8 people.

      Hi Adrian,

You can collect a Takeaway from St Davids Cross Hotel until 9pm, also Saffron in St Davids is the Indian Takeaway, I think they operate until later if you want to collect a Takeaway from them – they are on Nun Street. The Shed in Porthgain stop serving Takeaways at 8.30pm.

Best to contact each of the individual places if you can to pre-order or book your slot.

      Hope you enjoy

Hello, thanks for this. really useful resource! Has the fish and chip shop, just off the main square, closed down?

      Hi Edmund,

Peter’s Plaice is still open (closed Sundays). You can’t pre-order there so you would just need to join the queue. In the high season they are open all day from 12-8pm.

      Have a great time.
