Pembrokeshire is known for several things; it’s the only coastal national park in the UK, it’s home to the smallest city in the UK, and it produces some of the finest food in the UK. So when we compiled this list of the best places for a crab sandwich, we didn’t need to list them by preference – they’re all pretty amazing!

Often, Welsh seafood is sent abroad, but in this wild Welsh county, all the crab going into these delicious sandwiches is locally caught. Whichever one of these venues you choose for your crab sandwich craving, we can guarantee that it’ll be something to write home about!

The Shed, Porthgain

The Shed is already well-known for being THE place in Pembrokeshire for the freshest fish and chips, but at lunchtime, they also serve a delicious crab sandwich. On a sunny day, if you get there early, you can sometimes watch the fisherman bringing the spider crabs off the boat. It doesn’t get fresher than that!

Old Pharmacy Tea Rooms, Solva

This beautiful vintage tea room in the heart of the fishing village of Solva boasts daily fresh crab for their crab sandwiches, as well as specialising in loose leaf tea and a gorgeous selection of handmade cakes and treats – yum!

Quayside, Lawrenny

At the heart of Pembrokeshire National Park, nestled into Lawrenny’s waterfront is Quayside, a multi-award-winning tearoom. Their crab sandwich draws a crowd and can be teamed with some of the best coffee in Pembrokeshire, or even a pitcher of Pimms on a sunny afternoon waterside.

Cafe Mor, Freshwater West

You may know this expansive, popular beach from its scene in the Harry Potter films; this is the setting for the seaside shell house in The Deathly Hallows. What you may not know is that this is also the setting for the best post-surf sandwich you’ll ever have! Cafe Mor is a food hut that you will not be able to walk past, and their crab meat stuffed rolls are a welcome hunger beater after a windswept walk along this famous beach. It’s a foodie must!

Lobster & Mor, Little Haven

The village of Little Haven is a foodie’s heaven, but we highly recommend a Lobster and Mor‘s takeaway crab sandwich. Served from their seaside deli-style premises, we suggest a walk to The Point for the most gorgeous views to match the most gorgeous crab sandwiches!

Mrs Will the Fish

Want to eat your crab in the comfort of your beautiful St Davids Escapes cottage? Then look no further than the famous Mrs Will the Fish. Based in the centre of Solva, she offers the finest seafood platters in the west. Dressed crab, whole lobster and a variety of prawns are on offer, pulled straight from the Irish sea and served however you like them – grab some fresh bread from the bakery at CK’s in St Davids for your own favourite crab sandwich and wash it down with something bubbly – bliss!

If you fancy giving crabbing a go yourself, then the harbours of Pembrokeshire are the perfect place to give it a try! Cafe on the Quay at Lower Town, Fishguard will lend you their plastic-free crabbing gear, or pop down with your own lines to Solva Harbour and while away an afternoon watching the boats bob in the harbour.
