The Shed Fish and Chip Bistro in Porthgain is what Pembrokeshire holiday dreams are made of. Local seafood, harbourside location, the friendliest staff and a cosy interior. These are just a few reasons why The Shed is our go-to for a meal out, whatever the occasion.

Located in the small harbour village of Porthgain, The Shed Bistro sits within what was the old machine shop for engines used in the nearby slate quarry. Now a relaxed and informal cafe and bistro, The Shed is a firm favourite among locals and visitors alike. Inside, local artwork adorns the walls and coastal decor adds to the cosy atmosphere. Outside, the small terrace has views out to the harbour, and their takeaway menu means that if you’d like a closer look, you can eat your fish and chips on the harbour wall.

The Fish & Chips

Let’s start with what The Shed is famous for – their fish and chips! They offer beautifully prepared fish in silky batter with chunky golden chips on the side. Choose from Cod, Haddock, Hake or Monkfish, and then select from their tasty sides. There’s also a kids menu, with half portions of fish and chips available. Whether they’re eaten inside or sitting on the harbour wall, they are delicious!

The Local Seafood

While the fish and chip menu is spectacular, there’s more to experience at The Shed. Their menu is full of locally caught seafood dishes, which changes regularly depending on the day’s fishing. Picture sitting on the terrace on a summer’s day, looking out at the harbour with delicately prepared seafood in front of you and a glass of white wine in hand? You just can’t beat it!

The Sweet Stuff

And then, oh, and then, there are the desserts! Homemade classics like Walnut Tart, even Banana Split, sit alongside warm Chocolate Brownies. Or venture to the counter to gaze at the homemade cakes under glass domes. They are the perfect way to round off your meal and have you wandering back for a snooze in your holiday cottage.

If this has got your tastebuds tingling, head here to find menus and book a table. Booking is essential in high season, and advisable all year round!

Has this got you craving a visit to the coast? Find your perfect holiday cottage in Porthgain!

We recommend walking from Aberieddy, and eating fish and chips on the harbour wall watching the sunset.
